Most of my paintings begin in the abstract. Sometimes I decide to stay there. Each stroke becomes a play or move and the game is to work with each one as a base for the next. Sometimes these abstracts begin to take a shape or form like the shapes you see in the clouds. I find working in the abstract more of a challenge than painting to copy a still life or landscape that I am actively observing.
