“These figs started as a 2ft tall shrub from the downtown market. Today it stands at least 10 ft tall, shading my studio window. I began painting this vase life-size, usually my preference. In order to create more balance, I decided it needed to grow!”

“Found in the pantry, this cake sat not quite baked. When I come back to a painting fresh after, in this case, years, I want to change things. Here, the icing needed to be fudgier, thicker. A mix of chocolate brown and warn yellow and this cake is ready to be sliced.”

“I am a baker. Sometimes I have a special recipe and sometimes I count on my friends Betty Crocker and Duncan Hines. For this chocolate on chocolate cake, I proudly use a mix but I always make my icing. Chocolate butter cream on this one - I try to make my mother proud.”

This painting is a different take on the same wooden bowl and apples that are in Abstract Apples. I found the stripes of a kitchen towel to be a perfect backdrop for the green and red apples picked at Jeter Farms in Brevard. Jeter also has beautiful flowers and I thought the vase with blooms was a nice complement.

Add a feather, take an acorn. This chest of drawers in my studio has become what I refer to as “The Treasure Table.” Its drawers have various oddities that I like to set up for still life. The idea for this take and give came from a dear friend who explained that he grew up with a treasure table at the front door and that you never knew what you might find each day.

The yellow sofa in my studio is much more tattered than it appears in the painting. Many a friend has come by to sit a spell warming up a spot on the worn damask. Pay attention to the background and you may recognize “The Green Drape” as the backdrop to the painting beside this one.

Inspired by pink! Gladeolas are architecturally interesting in composing a painting. This salmon color is one of my favorites, and I was excited to see these bright blooms at the market. The apples scattered at the base are the perfect balance for this strong flower.

A common street-side scene in Paris, France. The Parisians gather at high-top tables, toting with them a baguette and a bottle of wine as the oyster monger serves up platters by the dozen.

No rumor - it was real! Scott and I scored phenomenal seats in Vegas to see Adele. It was AMAZING. What a show! For weeks, I had been listening to Adele in my studio to make sure I was prepped. This painting of zinnias and figs was a fun super-layered painting inspired by Adele belting it out in the background.

The rose medallion dish in this piece was borrowed from a friend, and once I placed the deep red pomegranates against its delicate floral border, the whole composition seemed to settle into place.
